Hislop is to be made into a Hollywood movie .

Crete, being a small island and with a close-nit community is just the

sort of place where rumours spread like forest fires. The latest story to

be doing the rounds is that the bestselling book , "The Island" by Victoria

Hislop is to be made into a Hollywood movie .

It would appear the alleged source for the story is from an official at

the Archeological department in Heraklion, the capital of Crete If one

believes the rumours, an approach has been made to film on the historic

former leper colony, fortress and Island of Spinalonga by a US based film

crew.

As Spinalonga is an important Archeological monument, such permission

would certainly

need to be granted - the simple question we all want to know is..........

is it true ?

Further - If it is true - who would be cast in the the movie- we would

love to hear your suggestions for the lead roles.

The "Hollywood Effect"

If or when "The Island" were to be made into a movie, it is clear that

Crete and especially the area around Plaka, the small fishing village

opposite Spinalonga, would receive a huge boost in tourism numbers.

Undeniably also property prices would rise.
